Former NFL player detained for Instagram post

Classes at Harvard Westlake School were canceled Friday Feb. 23 2018 due to an indirect threat

Mr Incognito, Mr Pouncey and two former Harvard-Westlake classmates were also tagged in the screen grab of Mr Martin's Instagram story.

Former Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin was detained Friday in Southern California after he posted on Instagram a picture of a shotgun and shell casings.

Martin tagged Incognito and another former Dolphins teammate (Mike Poucey) in the post.

The post from Martin, who has struggled with mental health issues after a 2013 bullying scandal that shook the National Football League, showed a shotgun and referred by name to the private Harvard-Westlake prep school in Los Angeles that he once attended.

The threat in question, posted to an Instagram account believed to belong to Martin, read "When you're a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge". Frank Albarran of the Los Angeles Police Department's North Hollywood Division said around noon. Los Angeles police spokesperson Tony Kway told USA TODAY Sports that officers from the department's North Hollywood division responded to the school "after an Instagram post by a former student who is now an adult". The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the Dolphins have not announced any details of Martin's illness. That incident became national news and resulted in an NFL investigation after Martin went public with the allegations.

PALO ALTO, CA - NOVEMBER 27: Jonathan Martin #55 and Richard Sherman #9 of the Stanford Cardinal celebrate after they beat the Oregon State Beavers at Stanford Stadium on November 27, 2010 in Palo Alto, California.

Last evening, we learned of an Internet post that mentions Harvard-Westlake by name. "We try and teach, and I think that our students leave here with a sense of what's the right thing to do and what's the right way to be".

The Carolina Panthers claimed Martin, the Dolphins' 2012 second-round pick, off waivers in March, but Martin retired before training camp opened in 2015, citing a back injury. "Neither black nor white people accept you because they don't understand you. It takes away from your self-confidence, your self-worth, your sanity". "Just because it was not overt or readily known by any of us, obviously it was happening, but he felt that way, and we are trying to do a better job of checking in with our student-athletes to make sure that they are feeling good about being members of our community".

This a developing story which we will update on a continuous basis.
