Amazon just made shopping at Whole Foods even cheaper for Prime members

Whole Foods Grocery

Whole Foods customers are reaping the benefits of Amazon's $14 billion acquisition of the organic-food store chain in 2017. Now it looks like they might have come up with a way.

Non-Prime members with the Rewards Visa Card will get three per cent back on their Whole Foods Market purchases, on top of the three per cent they already receive on all Amazon.com purchases, the two per cent on restaurants, gas stations, and drugstores, and the one per cent back on other purchases.

Cardmembers who are not eligible Prime members will earn 3 percent back at Whole Foods and Amazon.com, Amazon said in a statement. Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express cardholders can earn 6% cash back on US supermarket purchases (up to $6,000 a year), which includes Whole Foods purchases. Earlier, the online retailer began delivering Whole Foods groceries through Prime. Amazon Prime members can take advantage of the free shipping, streaming music, video and photo storage for the $99 annual membership.

The card also becomes the first Prime-branded card available to Whole Foods customers. This credit card offer is another step in implementing the frequent shopper plan. Costco offers 2% cash back, and 4% on gas, with the fee covered by club membership.

Writing for Forbes, Phil Lempert, "The Supermarket Guru", said a family of four could earn $658.38 cash back shopping at Whole Foods annually with the Prime card. Around the Holiday season, Amazon also opened pop-up stores at Whole Foods locations to make it easier for customers to get a look and feel of the devices and learn more about Prime.
