No injuries after reports of shots fired at Highline College

Students Ruvim Kuzmik left and Donny Mc Connaughey wait Friday in the parking lot after police locked down Highline College in Des Moines because of reports of gunfire

Highline College in Des Moines, a town located 15 miles south of Seattle, was placed on a mandatory campus lockdown at about 8:55 a.m. amid reports of gunfire.

Police say they are trying to determine whether shots were fired.

"[Police] are essentially setting up a perimeter". The South King Fire Department has said that there are no known victims at the school.

She said Cruz - who moved in with a pal's family after his adoptive mum Lynda, 68, died in November - did not have a "support system" and "that affects the people around you". We will update when more information becomes available.

Kent Assistant Police Chief Rafael Padilla said Friday that authorities walked the entire Highline College campus and did not find anything.

Multiple law enforcement agencies from around the area have responded to the school, though official sources have yet to confirm any shots were fired.

Highline College's Facebook page first mentioned a lockdown and a report of shots fired shortly before 9 a.m. PT (noon ET).

In a Facebook status update, the school said, "Lockdown: This is not a drill". A warning was put in its place that stated that the college is reacting to an active shooter danger on the campus, that they were cooperating with the police, and that all of the buildings, as well as the staff and students, were on lockdown.

A reunification site was set up at a nearby Lowes parking lot on Pacific Highway.

The school had not given the all-clear as of 10:30 a.m.

Highline College is about 17 minutes south of Seattle in Des Moines, Wash. "I panicked after what happened (Wednesday)", he said, referring to the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., that killed 17 people.
