Army foils infiltration bid along LoC in Poonch

The army is also carrying out sniper actions against Pakistani posts opposite Keran, Jhangar and many other locations along the LoC, they said.

The attack resulted in killing of five Indian soldiers and injuring a number of others. In addition, the army has conducted eight to 10 actions against the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control from the past three to four months.

"Addressing a press briefing at the Udhampur headquarters of the Army's Northern Command, Anbu said, "(A total of) 185-220 terrorists in the south and 190-225 terrorists in the north of Peer Panjal are ... ready for infiltration".

Sources said the Pakistani desperation to increase activities in the Kashmir Valley where a record number of terrorists were killed past year as the visits of senior officers have increased significantly.

According to sources, "radio chatter" and reports of burials indicate that 138 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 156 others injured on the LoC due to Indian action previous year.

"The amount of casualties inflicted on the Pakistan Army is about three times more than what the Indian Army has suffered along the LoC", said experts.

Seeking to counter the narrative that Indian Army is suffering casualties and not replying adequately to Pakistani provocations by frequent ceasefire violations, government sources said 20 Pakistani soldiers have been killed in the last 45 days by our troops along the Line of Control.

A search operation is underway in the area.

The Pakistan Army has a policy of not acknowledging the killing of its personnel.

On February 7, the defence ministry informed the Parliament that there were 192 ceasefire violations (till January 29) from the Pakistani side along the Line of Control.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office (FO) summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh to protest the latest "unprovoked" ceasefire violation by India across the LoC in which a school van was targeted.

The pattern has continued this year and there have been more than 200 violations in the first six weeks of 2018, the report said.
