Google Found a Way to Bring Smart Replies to All Messaging Apps

Google-Smart-Replies

Google is working on an AI-based auto-reply. The Reply software is only available for Android devices and users will have to sign up here in order to try it out for themselves.

The app is named "Reply", and invitations to test it have been sent out by Area 120. You know those boxes that pop up when you are composing a reply to a message and make suggestions what to say?

As well as single-tap responses Google is planning to enable automatic replies, for example letting people know when you are busy and can't get to your phone. Reply will be able to silence users' phone when they are driving, and it will also inform people who send a message that the user can not chat at the moment.

Love it, or hate it, but the Smart Reply feature in Google's Gmail is a boon to those who are inundated with hundreds of emails on a daily basis. Here, it offers Smart Replies to your notification and gives responses to questions like "When can you be home?" or "Are you at the restaurant?"

Your Favorite Chat Apps: Reply works with Hangouts, Allo, Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, Android Messages, Skype, Twitter DMs, and Slack.

It appears Google is working to bring its Smart Reply feature to a variety of messaging apps from third parties, not just its own services such as Allo, Inbox, Assistant, and Gmail. There's also an automated Vacation Responder that is able to check the user's calendar and tell people that the user is now not at work.

Reply will also be able to tell everyone you're on holiday, automatically checking your calendar and replying as appropriate. When you get an urgent message like "We're waiting for you!" Smart Reply functionality could save on-the-go workers time while improving collaboration. It can silence the user's phone when they're driving and tell people who message them that the user is busy, or even bring certain messages to the user's attention even if the phone is on silent.

It should be noted that Android Messages, as mentioned, has already received Smart Reply support.

The project, like all Area 120 projects, is unrelated to any broader developments at Google - in this case, that means it's not directly tied to Google's messaging efforts.
