Authorities are investigating after three law enforcement officers were shot on Friday afternoon.

A police officer was killed and two deputies were genuinely injured in a shooting that additionally left a speculate dead south of Atlanta, experts said Friday.

A Georgia mayor says a police officer who was killed in a shooting that wounded two sheriff's deputies had a young child and a baby on the way.

He said gunfire erupted as they were trying to take a male suspect into custody.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Henry Co Sheriff's deputies and Locust Grove officer who were shot this morning in Henry County", the Gwinnett County Police Department wrote in a tweet. When he wouldn't cooperate, they called the Locust Grove officer for backup, McBrayer said. McBrayer couldn't speak to how many shots were fired, who fired the shot that killed the suspect, or what kind of weapons were involved.

Of the two deputies who were injured, one was in serious condition and was undergoing surgery for an abdominal injury, while the other was in fair condition and had been released from the hospital. Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Nelly Miles said officials are still notifying next of kin before identifying the suspect. The other was in reasonable condition, and was hit in the vest. Nearby Locust Grove Elementary School was put on lockdown.

"It's scary because you never know who is in your neighborhood".
