Another day, another Federal Bureau of Investigation conspiracy theory: GOP says, "Thanks, Obama!"

Another day, another Federal Bureau of Investigation conspiracy theory: GOP says,

But a CNN review of the story's premise indicates that key text messages the story relied on were taken out of context, and portrayed as meaning something entirely different than what they actually meant.

The document dump, which includes texts sent between August 16, 2015, and July 23, 2017, was accompanied by an interim report on the panel's investigation into the FBI's handling of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's email investigation. The text messages were released Tuesday in a report produced by the office of Republican Sen.

On his national radio show Wednesday night, LevinTV host Mark Levin cut through a media smoke screen being used to dismiss concerns arising from a bombshell report about newly-released anti-Trump text messages between high-ranking Federal Bureau of Investigation officials that said Barack Obama wanted to know "everything" their team was doing at one point during the 2016 presidential campaign. "Ron Johnson has put out a report that is raising questions about President Obama's potential involvement in Hillary Clinton's email investigation", said Hannity.

In an April 2016 interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace, Obama said he didn't get involved with pending investigations at either the FBI or the Justice Department. The committee made them available for public consumption, Fox News first reported early Wednesday.

The aforementioned text transmitted September 2, 2016, is just one of the more than 50,000 texts sent between the two lovers during their two-year extramarital affair.

It was a full month later, on October 28, 2016, when Comey informed Congress that, "Due to recent developments", the FBI was re-opening its Clinton email investigation. "It's clear you're getting your talking points from a partisan analysis by Think Progress", Shanahan said, referring to a liberal news website.

"I do not talk to the Attorney General about pending investigations". The misleading messaging was delivered to millions of people through Fox News' airwaves and through other pro-Trump media, which went into overdrive.

Trump himself tweeted: "NEW FBI TEXTS ARE BOMBSHELLS".

It's unclear exactly what the text is referencing.

One former Obama official told CNN that the idea the text message was about the Clinton email investigation was "total nonsense", noting that the theory did not conform with the timeline of events. "Potus wants to know everything we're doing".

The Journal points out the text exchange took place only days before the former president met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where he confronted the Russian leader about his country's meddling in the 2016 election. "Text From 2016 Shows Obama's Interest in FBI Employees' Work", read its headline.

"I look forward to investigating this matter more closely with my colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee", said Gaetz, "and I would like to thank the House Intelligence Committee, Senate Intelligence Committee, and the Senate Judiciary Committee for continuing to investigate these worrisome issues on behalf of the American people".

E-mails obtained by Congress that were written by then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, reveal that the FBI treated the Clinton investigation as "special," and "the decision was made to investigate it at headquarters with a small team", instead of through the Washington field office, which reportedly is standard protocol. Newsmax said: "FBI Text Messages Imply Obama's Involvement in Clinton Probe".

The last text is from Page to Strzok, and comes on June 23, 2017, when she wrote, "Please don't ever text me again". Johnson did so after people familiar with the exchange said the text message referenced a gag gift of Putin-themed calendars that one of the employees purchased for those working on the early stage of the Russian Federation investigation.
