Roy Hodgson defends Arsene Wenger forward of journey to Arsenal

Alexis Sanchez Urged to sign for Bayern by Arturo Vidal

Sanchez, 29, has been linked with a move to Manchester City to play under their manager Pep Guardiola but in the last few days the speculation has shifted to the red side of the city, Manchester United. If it doesn't happen, he will play on Saturday.

Lukaku has been suffering from a dip in form in recent weeks, compared to the prolific start he made to the Premier League season where he scored seven goals in his first seven games at Old Trafford.

Manchester City only want to sign "nice" players that will not disrupt the dressing room.

Wenger says the deal could become finalised before Arsenal's clash with Crystal Palace on Sunday (AEDT) but admits there are still factors to be agreed.

"I will speak with you if one day we sign him, I can speak with you about him and what he can bring to our team. He's more of a winger, a number 10, but we are not going to buy a striker".

Rumours of a potential January exit emerged before the transfer window opened, with a possible return to Dortmund mooted.

Wenger played coy when asked about Arsenal's €50 million (£44m/$61m) bid for Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, insisting "nothing is happening" at the moment .

"I've never put pressure on a club when they believe it is too much".

Wenger has been heavily criticised in recent weeks after poor form and an embarrassing FA Cup exit coincided with him failing to tie star players and Mesut Ozil to new contracts. So close, so close, so close, if it doesn't happen it is not going to happen. "This period creates a odd feeling in the dressing room".

He said: 'The fact is we're still in a relegation battle, we're not alone now, we're a little bit less isolated than we were some weeks and months ago and we're happy, of course, about that.

"But the most expensive player is Kevin De Bruyne and when you see now the reality, a lot of clubs spend much more for one or two players".

"I think clearly everybody knows that we are there and especially when Arsenal manager speaks so clearly like he did".
