Trump Enters Stadium for College National Championship to Cheers, Sings National Anthem

Social media users are accusing President Donald Trump of forgetting the words to the National Anthem (video below).

There was no such kneeling protest before the game as college players remained in their locker rooms during the anthem.

Donald Trump was at a college football game for a rendition of the national anthem Monday. BBC News journalist Anthony Zurcher pointed out on Twitter that it can be hard to hear the anthem on the field, and singing along isn't always easy. He did not stray away from his lyrics to say something about Trump, who reportedly left before K. Dot's performance.

This is the President of the #United States that we're talking about. He said his grandfather had taught him to do this only during the pledge, and to only sing during the anthem. He also sang part of the national anthem - starting, then stopping, then starting again - which led some to speculate he didn't know the whole thing.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these National Football League owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, he's fired?'" Trump said in August. Those in military uniform should salute. In 1942 the National Anthem Committee wrote that "it is of paramount importance that emphasis be placed upon the singing of the National Anthem".

What has Mr Trump said about the anthem? "We are fighting for our farmers, for our country, and for our GREAT AMERICAN FLAG".

Donald Trump has been criticised on social media after he appeared to struggle to recall the words to the USA national anthem. Earlier this year, Trump was accused of stoking a culture war by loudly criticizing Colin Kaepernick and other NFL players for kneeling during the National Anthem as a form of peaceful protest against racism. He has even changed the banner image on his Twitter account to a photograph of him standing during the anthem before the game.
