North, South Korea to meet for talks Tuesday

Critics said that tweet and Trump's continued presence on the network endanger the world and violate Twitter's ban on threats of violence

President TrumpDonald John TrumpHouse Democrat slams Donald Trump Jr. for "serious case of amnesia" after testimony Skier Lindsey Vonn: I don't want to represent Trump at Olympics Poll: 4 in 10 Republicans think senior Trump advisers had improper dealings with Russia MORE responded to Kim's assertion about Pyongyang's nuclear arsenal on Tuesday, assuring in a tweet that the arsenal commanded by the U.S.is "much bigger" and "more powerful". Both North Korea and the U.S. have continued to threaten each other, with Kim Jong Un ramping up production of nuclear warheads and Trump vowing to keep up his pressure campaign.

The North-South emergency hotline, meanwhile, is located in the so-called "truce village" of Panmunjom inside the heavily guarded "demilitarized zone" or DMZ that divides the Korean peninsula.

In an interview with United States broadcaster Voice of America, Pence said the president's leadership on the world stage has resulted in "measurable progress", especially on the issue of North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

Earlier this week, Trump seemed open to the possibility of an inter-Korean dialogue after Kim made a rare overture toward South Korea in a New Year's address. "Those talks are clearly the result of the amount of global pressure (on North Korea), and they are a way for North Korea to start talking while keeping it contained to a benign issue".

Mr Trump took credit for brokering the talks on Twitter, however. North Korea then called again on Wednesday a few hours later proposing to "call it a day", according to a South Korean ministry official, quoted in the country's news agency Yonhap. Foal Eagle is a series of exercises created to test the readiness of the United States and South Korean militaries.

As we previously reported, the White House says the USA and South Korea want to "de-conflict the Olympics" so the two countries can focus on security for the games.

Beyond that it's considering forming a single Korea Olympics team, entering the opening and closing ceremonies together or forming a single Korea cheering squad, the report said, citing a roadmap for negotiations from South Korea's presidential office. Commercial satellite imagery suggested that North Korea was preparing for a rocket engine test at the Sohae launch facility in the country's northeast, the website 38 North reported Friday.
