Investigators gather January 1, 2018, outside a home in Long Branch, N.J., about 30 miles south of New York City, where a 16-year-old is accused of killing his father, mother, sister and a family friend on New Year's Eve.
Gramiccioni says police responded to a 911 call of shots fired at a Long Branch residence just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The boy will be charged with four counts of murder and a weapons offense. The teen is expected to make his first appearance before a judge Tuesday.
They were identified as the teen's father, 44-year-old Steven Kologi; his 42-year-old mother Linda Kologi; his 18-year-old sister Brittany Kologi; and 70-year-old family acquaintance Mary Shultz of Ocean Township.
The rifle used in the shooting was legally registered to a resident of the house, Mr Gramiccioni said.
The prosecutor said the teenager's grandfather and brother were not targeted and left the home unharmed, according to The A.P.
The teenager, whose name was not released, was taken into custody without incident.
