Eric Garner was killed in 2014 during an altercation with police when NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo put him in a chokehold.

Garner reportedly suffered "major brain damage" from a heart attack she had last week and died at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday morning after being in a coma since December 23.

Erica Garner, 27, who emerged as a controversial activist after the death of her father, Eric Garner, has died, a week after suffering an apparent heart attack.

After her father's passing, Erica dedicated her life to fighting police brutality.

Garner was first diagnosed with heart problems while pregnant, and she had only given birth a few months earlier. Doctors said the pregnancy had put a strain on her heart, which was later found to be enlarged.

Palanteo was charged with causing Garner's death, but a grand jury declined to indict him. A Justice Department civil rights investigation into the case is ongoing.

Out of respect for Erica Garner and her iconic battle for justice against police brutality which is primarily an act mostly people of color in the United States of America are experiencing, the family has requested for only Black journalists to request for their commentary.

"She passed away this morning", a tweet posted to Erica Garner's Twitter account by family members Saturday morning read. His death, which was caught on camera as he repeated the phrase "I can't breathe", became one of the most important events in the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. "I love you. I am glad you came into our lives", the family said in a post on Garner's Twitter account. Mr Garner also had asthma, and was filmed telling officers multiple times: "I can't breathe". In a series of tweets after the meeting, Erica Garner again stressed that she wanted to see progress on the investigation.

"This city will miss her unshakable sense of justice and passion for humanity", hetweeted. Bernie Sanders during his run for the Democratic nomination for president in 2016.

"People ask, 'When will you stop marching?" "I will always march".
