TIMELINE: How the arrest at Hyatt Regency Downtown unfolded

Police on Sunday arrested a man they say was found with several guns and ammunition in his Hyatt Regency hotel room downtown

A man has been arrested on multiple charges after police located a small arsenal of guns on the top floor of the Hyatt Regency on Louisiana Street downtown, Houston police said. Here's a timeline of how that arrest happened: About 1:00 a.m.: An off-duty police officer encountered a man in the hotel lobby.

The 49-year-old was arrested for assaulting a peace officer and trespassing, according to the police.

Houston police and security went to his room to collect his belongings, where they found ammunition all over the room, local NBC affiliate KPRC reported. "He's intoxicated so they won't be able to interview him till he's sobered up a bit", said Lt. Gordon MacIntosh, per the Houston Chronicle. He said his truck was parked in the hotel garage.

The man is now in police custody, facing charges of trespassing and unlawful carry, and as of mid-morning Sunday, reportedly waiting to sober up before investigators can continue with their questioning. The man was taken to jail to await questioning. The Hyatt Regency Downtown is scheduled to host its annual New Year's Eve celebration tonight. The name of the suspect is not being released at this time.

Police Chief Art Acevedo tweeted later on New Year's Eve that the threat had been 'contained'. Investigators also found more weapons in the man's vehicle.
