'Scared' pregnant woman found murdered after cops blow off frantic 911 call

Tonie Wells 22 was found dead in her Crown Heights Brooklyn home on Dec. 27 2017

Two police officers were suspended yesterday after allegedly ignoring a 911 call to check on Tonie Wells, sources told the New York Post.

Neighbors alerted police after they heard crying and realized they had not seen Wells recently.

Two New York City Police officers have been suspended on suspicion of failing to perform a welfare check on a 22-year-old pregnant woman who was later found dead in her Brooklyn home - and now her husband has been arrested in her death. EMS pronounced Wells dead at the scene. Wells' young child was also found in the house.

While officers were dispatched to the Wells' Crown Heights residence, they didn't even get out of their auto to check on the woman, law enforcement sources told the Post.

Her 2-year-old daughter was found in the home unharmed. She was discovered with strangulation wounds at the bottom of a stairwell.

"They seemed like a nice family", neighbor Michelle Ruiz said of the couple.

On Thursday, police said Wells' husband was a person of interest, and was in custody and being questioned.

Deputy Chief Michael Kemper, Commanding Officer of Detective Borough Brooklyn North, told reporters that Wells' death was deemed suspicious.

He has not officially been arrested, police said.

According to the Post, police have previously responded to a domestic incident at the home. Investigators say Wells had bruising to the neck and appears to have been pushed down the stairs, though officials are awaiting autopsy results to determine an official cause of death.
