Kentucky Woman Mauled to Death by 2 Pit Bulls, Husband Injured

Johnny Lankford

Just before 11 a.m. Sunday, Lorraine and her husband Johnny were attacked, Steele said, by two pit bulls.

Around 10.20am, brother-in-law James Saylor called police to tell them that the two dogs had "savagely" attacked the couple.

Lorraine Brock Saylor, 66, and her husband were attacked by two pit bulls Sunday morning, Bell County officials said. Her husband, who survived the attack, is Johnny Saylor.

Johnny was able to get away and grab his gun and shot at the dogs, killing one. Johnny Saylor retrieved a.22-caliber pistol from inside his house and went back outside, where he shot one of the dogs in the chest as it jumped at him.

"Sheriff Mitch Williams is asking the community to be on the lookout for a brown pit bull that is injured", according to the statement. Both were pit bulls, the caller said.

The attack happened on Wiser Branch Road in the Arjay community of Bell County.

Deputies responded to the scene about 10:20 a.m. Johnny Saylor was taken to a hospital, where he was treated for injuries to his arm and head.

"Under no circumstances are you to engage this risky animal", the sheriff's department said.

"She loved animals and every morning she would go out and put wild bird seed out on a metal roof of a little work shed they had there and feed then birds", said Steele. Her husband was also hurt by the dogs.

If you see a pit bull matching that description, in the Arjay or surrounding area, call Bell County dispatch immediately at 606-337-6174 or 911. "She was just a sweetheart" said Steele.
