Rabbi Yuval Cherlow and protest organizer Eldad Yaniv address an anti-corruption rally in Tel Aviv

Lorde responded on twitter to fans, explaining that she would get informed on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict before coming to any decisions regarding the upcoming show.

There was also a protest of about 300 people in Haifa, most identifying with the dati leumi community. "Thank you for educating me, I am learning all the time too".

It was announced on Sunday that New Zealand pop singer Lorde has made a decision to cancel her show in Israel, which was scheduled for June 2018. Been speaking w many people about this and considering all options.

"In this context, a performance in Israel sends the wrong message", the letter said.

"Noted!" she wrote on in response to the letter.

Israelis take part in a demonstration under the name "March of Shame" to protest against government corruption and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on December 9, 2017 in Tel Aviv.

The publishing of the letter follows U.S. President Donald Trump's controversial decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, inciting global outrage especially from within the Arab world.

"Such an effect can not be undone by even the best intention and the best music", they added.

The pair were among 47 high-profile celebrities urging the "Creep" hitmakers to sign a petition with Artists for Palestine UK, in the hope the alternative rock band would reconsider the concert and join the on-going cultural boycott.

"Today, millions of people stand opposed to the Israeli government's policies of oppression, ethnic cleansing, human rights violations, occupation, and apartheid", the letter read.

Trump earlier this month recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital and announced plans to relocate the US embassy there from Tel Aviv.

The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement describes itself as "working to end worldwide support for Israel's oppression of Palestinians and pressure Israel to comply with global law".
