Final push for the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign

Salvation Army Kettle Campaign donations down

A few days before Christmas, these families will return to receive a gift card to a local grocery store and parents are provided the opportunity to select toys for their children from the donated Toy Depot.

"The donor's anonymous, and I think that's what they enjoy", Shiels said. "They always have. We've never had a child in the 18 years that I've been here not be adopted and taken care of". "My son, Trevor, is going to love this because he likes cars", said Tehachapi resident Greg Venter, as he held up a large toy truck.

"We had folks pack last week", he said, and "folks gave out (toys) Monday and Wednesday".

Tehachapi resident Josie Reza, who brought her two young daughters, requested learning tools to help her children master their ABC's and shapes. "We are very grateful to all those who have given us gifts already, but we are asking for even more help as we have more to help".

A 1980 South African gold Krugerrand estimated to be worth more than $1,400 was found in a collection kettle at the St. Clair Shores Kroger on Marter Road and Jefferson Ave. - by the same bell-ringer as in previous years, according to a news release.

The Salvation Army outposts in both Wausau and Stevens Point need your help to reach their 2017 Red Kettle Campaign fundraising goals. Most everyone who applied to receive a wish qualified, Chavez said.

As part of that, they helped put together fleece blankets for the Salvation Army and gave Major Jeff Richardson the finished products today.

The event happens every year, usually after Thanksgiving, and the community is invited to participate.
