Is Amazon preparing OpenTube to compete with Google's YouTube as companies spar?

Amazon, it is said, has filed two trademark requests with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the terms "AmazonTube" and 'OpenTube.' The applications make no mention of YouTube, but the descriptions sound very similar to the Google-owned service. Armed with Amazon Web Services, its cloud computing platform, Amazon has unfettered access to the most powerful servers in the world.

Mozilla though refused to be drawn into the Google vs. Amazon battle and isn't positioning its Firefox for Fire TV move as a means of bypassing Google's plan to cut off access to YouTube from January 1.
