Sen. John McCain Returns Home to Arizona Following Hospitalization

Sen. John Mc Cain looks on during a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. on July 27. Mc Cain is returning to Arizona after receiving medical treatment U.S. President Donald Trump says

He had missed votes last week and will miss a crucial vote on the GOP tax bill this week.

As the Republican tax reform bill winds its way through Congress, two new developments have taken center stage: Sen. He will not be returning to the Senate until the new year, but his daughter wrote on Twitter to thank people for their well wishes and to say that that McCain was "doing well and we are all looking forward to spending Christmas together in Arizona".

Mr McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in July, after doctors found a blood clot over his left eye during a check-up.

McCain's absence is not expected to derail Republican efforts to pass the bill, despite a razor-thin majority in the Senate. "Senator McCain has returned to Arizona and will undergo physical therapy and rehabilitation at Mayo Clinic", the statement said. When Corker's office was asked if the inclusion of the provision influenced his decision to vote for the bill, his office replied that Corker "requested no specific tax provisions throughout the months long debate and had no knowledge of the pass-through provision in question".

McCain, 81, was admitted to the hospital for what is office called "normal side effects" of his cancer treatment last week.

He added: "An evaluation of his underlying cancer shows he is responding positively to ongoing treatment". "But the word is that John will come back if we need his vote". If the count is deadlocked, Vice President Mike Pence would cast the tie-breaking vote in favor of Republicans.

A vote is expected in the House and Senate on Tuesday. "They've headed back [to Arizona]", Trump said.

Ben Domenech, Meghan's husband, also said McCain's "doing well" and "looking forward to coming home to Arizona" Ben Domenech said Sunday. McCain's vote scuttled the seven-year effort by the GOP to dismantle much of President Barack Obama's health care law. McCain eventually began using a wheelchair, with members of his staff pushing him where he needed to go.
