Facebook's new Snooze button mutes annoying friends for 30 days

Facebook adds

Facebook can get a little overwhelming at times, especially in today's era of fake news and hot-topic political takes.

The feature works on groups and pages too, if you're getting spammed by an entity other than friends or family.

Did you unfollow a bunch of people on Facebook during the 2016 election and forget to follow them back after the dust had settled?

What can this option do?

If you're exhausted of seeing selfies, motivational quotes, photos of food, holiday snaps or anything other posts you find annoying, rather than unfriend someone, you can now mute them for a month without them knowing.

When a user comes across a post on Facebook either from a group, or a person, that they don't want to see posts from anymore, it's easy to Snooze that person or group.

"One of our core News Feed values is giving people more control".

Facebook today is launching a new feature created to give users more control over what content they see in their News Feed: a "Snooze" button.

If you're familiar with the current Unfollow / Hide tool that let you permanently remove a user or page's updates from your feed without unfriending them, you'll find that this new Snooze feature is somewhat similar. "Snoozing" can be reversed at any time, as well as restarted.

To snooze someone, look at one of their posts. In the last few weeks, two of its former executives voiced their concerns about the company's impact on children's brains.

But Facebook stated that it had become a socially conscious social network in recent years.

It happens to the best of us.

In some studies, researchers indicated that social media might cause an increased feeling of loneliness and depression. We've heard from people that they want more options to determine what they see in News Feed and when they see it.

To use Snooze, simply select it from the top-right drop-down menu of a post.
