Steelers LB Ryan Shazier showing 'gradual improvement'

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier is carted off with a spinal injury

A lot of them include wearing some sort of patch with their number on your uniform, but when it came to honoring linebacker Ryan Shazier, the Pittsburgh Steelers made a decision to step things up a bit by honoring their injured teammate with some custom cleats. Doctors are limiting his movement so they can continue to control the swelling and bruising in the Steelers star's back, and football is not at the forefront of anyone's mind at this time.

It is premature to say whether Shazier will play football again, but the focus right now is not on his playing career but on trying to facilitate his recovery. He was treated at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center before returning to Pittsburgh on Wednesday. Several Steelers players will be honoring their injured teammate with special painted cleats.

Brown posted a short video on Snapchat Friday of the customized cleats he intends to wear during warmups prior to the game.

Wide receiver Antonio Brown is making sure Shazier still has a presence on the field tomorrow night.

Shazier has been hospitalized at UPMC in Pitsburgh since suffering a spinal injury in the Steelers' 23-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday. He went down to the ground and immediately reached for his back after the hit. He was a Pro Bowler last season and is leading Pittsburgh in tackles this year.
