Roll Call reported this afternoon that Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ) was expected to resign from Congress amid rumors of inappropriate behavior and sexual misconduct.

Franks is a Congressman for Arizona's District 8. Stay with us online, on social media, and on air for further updates.

Neither Republican operative said they knew why the eight-term Franks was leaving.

Frank's northwest Phoenix suburb is reliably Republican, having gone to Trump and 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, both of whom won the district by more than 20 percentage points, and Franks easily won re-election a year ago. Mark Walker, N.C., the chairman of the conservative Republican Study Committee. Franks said he expected to make a statement Thursday.

Franks was first elected to Congress in 2002 and was reelected in 2016 by a 37-point margin.

Obviously, this news (if true) is incredibly shocking and came out of relatively nowhere compared to Sen. But no revelations were aired in the aftermath of the decision, and Franks went on to assume the chairmanship of a House Judiciary subcommittee.

The governor is required to establish the date of the primary election within 72 hours of the seat being officially vacated.
