Xiaomi's next flagship smartphone will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chip

At Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, the first Windows 10 laptop running on Snapdragon has been announced. The Envy X2 is very similar to numerous Surface Pro types of computers that already exist, while the NovaGo feels just like any other budget to midrange laptop.

One of the surprises at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit was the presence of AMD.

Besides an always-on PC and vast battery life, one of the other benefits of a Snapdragon processor is that no cooling fan is required, so the Envy x2 will always be free of annoying fan noise.

News that Microsoft and Qualcomm would soon power PCs with ARM-based chipsets arrived a year ago, but we've seen close to nothing regarding the concept's existence. No UK prices were announced at the conference but a U.S. price of $599 for the model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and $799 for the model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB look very reasonable indeed. HP is promising to eke more than 20 hours out of the chip without a charge, and what's more, the Envy x2 and other Snapdragon-powered machines are created to deliver that kind of battery life even though they're always on and come with LTE built in. What this means is, multiplayer gaming on the go could soon become a reality for many, allowing you to play online games like Overwatch or Counter-Strike on your laptop when you're on the road over cellular data thanks to Qualcomm's modems. These machines run full Windows 10 - so not some crippled Windows RT nonsense - and support 32bit x86 applications.

An entry-level spec will get you 4GB of RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.0 storage.

HP didn't provide any pricing information for the Envy x2, but it did say that customers can expect to buy it next spring. The NovaGo's screen can't be detached, but it does rotate 360 degrees for tablet mode.

It is compatible with Windows Ink styluses, Windows Hello authentication as well as Cortana.
