Penn State gutted it out down the stretch and fended off an Iowa rally for a 77-73 win at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in its 2017-18 Big Ten season opener. Browning may not have put up the insane numbers this season that he did a year ago, but the reigning Pac-12 player of the year is still no slouch.

This time it will be the Fiesta Bowl against Washington, with the game scheduled for 4 p.m. on December 30 at the Arizona Cardinals' University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.

The second half was more of the same as Iowa chased down a Penn State team that continued to respond to each Hawkeye score with one of its own to stay ahead. Washington lost to Arizona State and Stanford during the regular season.

And with just nine seconds to go Carr stood at the line with his team ahead by two, and drained two free throws to put the Hawkeyes away, turning that streak of 12 straight losses to the start of what Penn State will hope becomes a winning streak.

No major bowl game has treated Penn State better than the Fiesta, where the Lions are 6-0, including their last national championship victory over Miami at the end of the 1986 season. The Nittany Lions defeated the Huskies in the 1983 Aloha Bowl, 13-10.
