Man charged in death of 3-year-old Mariah Woods faces judge

Memorial set up for Mariah Woods not far from her house in Onslow County

He was charged late Friday with concealing of death.

Authorities issued an amber alert for Mariah last Monday, the same day her mother, Kristy Woods, reported to the police that she was missing.

The body was in a creek in Pender County about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the home Mariah shared with Kimrey in Jacksonville, FBI spokeswoman Shelley Lynch said in a statement with few other details.

Three-year-old Mariah Woods was reported missing November 27 and her disappearance set off a widespread search. "The arrest warrants are public record and the records speaks for themselves".

"It does not appear that they are related to this case, but they will be collected and turned over to investigative teams for further review so that we are 100 percent certain", he added.

Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Shelley Lynch said Saturday morning authorities are searching a site in Pender County in addition to multiple sites in Onslow County on what is now being classified as a recovery effort for the remains of Mariah Woods. The mother said Kimrey, her live-in boyfriend, checked on the girl an hour later when she woke up and told her to go back to sleep. The FBI said they are awaiting results from the medical examiner's office for positive confirmation.

Kimrey is being charged with concealing her death but more charges could be coming. Caitlin Gallinger, who works as a model, said her hope was gone and that she was close to getting eye removal surgery.

The mom assumed Mariah had been abducted and made an emotional plea for her safe return.

District Attorney Ernie Less said additional charges could be filed.

Mariah's father, who has been involved in a custody dispute with her mother, has criticized her version of events.

"It's unreal. It's a nightmare", Alex told local TV station WCTI-12 on Tuesday.

This weekend, the search for 3-year-old Mariah Woods ended tragically. "Nobody heard nothing? Four people in the house, two adults and two babies and somebody just comes, snatches the baby up and walks out?"
