Scott Frost and his staff commit to coaching UCF through bowl game

Scott Frost hired as Nebraska's new head football coach

"The state is hungry for unity", Frost said.

"I don't see us going 12-0 next year, but I know he will get energy from the kids and get the program enthusiastic and hopefully just have a better season next year than we had this year", said husker fan Rick Sheehy.

"I am thrilled that Scott is returning to his alma mater to lead the Husker football program", Moos said in a statement.

Frost's homecoming has people excited about husker football again and looking forward to a new season. "Response has already been tremendous, and in a short amount of time we're going to get a lot of things done".

Frost said he never expected a 12-0 season.

And he said the time to do that is right.

Frost met with his team for the first time Sunday morning. This season was fun.

"2017 has been one of the best years of my life".

Frost was a former Huskers quarterback under legendary coach Tom Osborne. The players expressed excitement about Nebraska's future under Frost, and he shared those same feelings about his new team. Frost was then drafted by the Jets and played five seasons in the National Football League with New York, Cleveland and Tampa Bay.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Nebraska before taking the same job at Kansas State. He will also be bringing several members of his coaching staff from UCF with him including his defensive coordinator Erik Chinander. The Panthers gave up just 107.1 yards per game on the ground that season.

In addition to head coaching, Frost spent time at OR as wide receivers coach from 2009-13 before being promoted to offensive coordinator from 2013-15. "A lot of coaches when they get a bigger job, or change from one school to another think they need to go out and hire some different people; the guys that helped us when there can help us when here and I expect the majority of them to join me".

Update: It was only a matter of time before Nebraska confirmed it had hired former quarterback Scott Frost as its new coach. Walters on Saturday was named the team's interim coach, although Frost still hopes to coach in the team's upcoming bowl game.
