Margot Robbie confirms working on "separate spinoff" Harley Quinn movie

Harley Quinn Margot Robbie

"Any people! But she needs a little girl gang". But more importantly, Margot Robbie's Harley was a universal hit with fans, and she's an actress who commands attention and is likely to remain a box office draw.

Margot spoke to MTV News' Josh Horowitz at a recent press tour for her new flick I, Tonya, to revealed the news of her female-centred Harley movie that she has been working on for over two years.

"Yeah I've been working on it for two years now", Robbie said of the unnamed Harley-led project that she's been producing. Suicide Squad 2 has been announced with writer/director Gavin O'Connor, but has no official release date.

"Honestly, I don't think anyone knows what's going to be the next thing to happen, but I think everyone is keen to getting Harley back on screen so everyone is working on lots of different versions of what could be next".

"No, it's a totally separate one". "There's a lot going on right now", she joked.

Robbie also says her Harley film will give the character some much-needed female friendships - a new squad, if you will. But a Harley solo film could be in the works, especially as Warner Bros. attempts to lay a solid foundation for the DCEU after stumbles with Batman v. Superman and Justice League. Suicide Squad didn't achieve such a feat and Robbie is well aware of all that goes into a film of this size - critical blowback and all. But you also can't be kind of paralyzed by the idea of 'How do we please everyone?' because it's just not going to happen. We may find out sooner rather than later.

"It's so weird when people want to know about you because you're like, wait, my whole job is not being me. Me?"

No other details were disclosed at press time - it is under lock and key, after all - but this certainly cements Harley Quinn's future (and Margot Robbie's) in the DC Extended Universe. Sound off in the comments!
