Million UK Uber Users Were Compromised In That Hack

In the hack 57 million Uber customers and drivers details were compromised

"Washington law is clear: When a data breach puts people at risk, businesses must inform them", Ferguson said in the release.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will conduct its investigation on the data breach involving personal data of users of ridesharing firm Uber in the Philippines.

It was reported recently that Uber discovered that it suffered a major data breach in 2016. With investigations under way by the attorneys general of Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Mexico, and NY, there will likely be more on this front soon.

The data is understood to have included names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers, but according to Uber, trip location history, credit card and bank account numbers, and dates of birth were not downloaded. Almost 11,000 drivers in the state were affected. The incident took place previous year but was only revealed last week. Under such a theory, he argues that Uber should face a penalty of several millions of dollars. Ferguson says that Uber did not notify his office until this month, more than a year after the breach.

When news of the breach was revealed last week, chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi said, "None of this should have happened, and I will not make excuses for it".

The NPC considers Uber as a Personal Information Controller and should provide detailed information on the nature of the incident, the scope of measure, and the remedial measures taken.

Similarly, the UK's Minister of State for Digital, Matt Hancock, said, "The Government expects Uber to respond fully to the incident with the urgency it demands and to provide the appropriate support to its customers and drivers in the United Kingdom".

"Uber users should continue to be vigilant and follow the advice from the NCSC, which can be found on its website".

However, Attorney General Ferguson contends that each day that Uber failed to report the breach to each of the drivers-as well as to his office-counts as a separate violation.
