Bungie confirms and deactivates Destiny 2's hidden XP scaling system

Destiny 2 Free Trial Starts This Week News Destiny 2

"Destiny 2" was one of the biggest releases this year. By "levelling up" beyond 20, players would earn a Bright Engram, the game's version of loot boxes.

Destiny 2 is a more attractive proposition than ever, with the release of a free trial of the game being released November 28. It's not clear if the Crucible will be on a separate playlist, but we know that all progress you make - every level gained and piece of gear you unlock - will carry over into the full game if you choose to purchase it.

The XP scaling system would actively reduce how much each XP point was worth on your experience bar. Today, we'd like to describe what's going on under the hood, and talk about what you can expect going forward when it comes to earning XP in Destiny 2. According to Bungie's post, the now-removed system scaled up experience points for players participating in lengthier activities like PvP matches or the raid and scaled experience down for shorter, grindable activities like public events.

News of the third and final Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris expansion livestream is also expected soon. We are not happy with the results, and we've heard the same from the community. "Effective immediately, we are deactivating this system", read the post. In its place, Bungie will be changing XP earn rates for end-game content across the board but will ensure that all values are properly and consistently shown in the UI.

In the meantime, Bungie Game Director Luke Smith took to Twitter amidst the heat of the all of this and promised information next week on updates and economy changes. I don't think that's necessarily an issue.

The trial will allow access to the cinematic campaign as well as online multiplayer PVP.
