LeBron James shades Grizzlies for firing David Fizdale

Marc Gasol

Memphis Grizzlies head coach David Fizdale has been fired, just one day after he chose to bench the team's All-Star center Marc Gasol during the fourth quarter of the their loss to the Brooklyn Nets.

After starting the season strong, the Grizzlies have lost eight consecutive games.

Bickerstaff, who served as Memphis' associate head coach, posted a 37-34 mark as an interim coach with the Houston Rockets in 2015-16.

Having played under Fizdale with the Miami Heat for four seasons, three-time National Basketball Association champ LeBron James has seemingly taken exception to Memphis' decision to fire Fizdale after less than two seasons as the team's head coach. Despite being benched in the fourth quarter of last night's game, he still finished with a team-high 18 points.

"That's what I value the most", Gasol said.

After a thorough evaluation, I decided a change in course was necessary to move forward and provide the team and organization its best chance at success this season and beyond, Memphis Grizzlies' general manager, Chris Wallace said in a statement today [Monday, November 27th].

"Ahhhhh, do I have faith in the coaching staff?", he asked rhetorically, according to Geoff Calkins of The Commercial Appeal.

Fizdale has recorded a 50-51 mark since being named the 13th head coach in franchise history on May 29, 2016.

The Grizzlies are the second National Basketball Association team to make an in-season coaching change. The Grizzlies' 5-1 start to the season was unraveling even before guard Mike Conley was sidelined over a week ago with an Achilles tendon injury.
