Microsoft Office apparently available now for Chromebook users

Microsoft Office Android apps now available on all Chromebooks

But one thing that up until now that has been fairly disastrous has been its support for individual Office applications on Google's Chromebooks.

Microsoft did announce that the Office suite will be coming to Chrome OS and finally, those using a Google Chromebook can now download and install the suite on their devices.

Microsoft is doing its part to unify the Chromebook experience by bringing its entire Office suite to the affordable Windows alternative. The arrival of Office is partly thanks to the appearance of the Play Store on Chromebooks. Although Google would rather Chrome OS users rely on its own G Suite apps, not having Office available would always restrict the appeal of Chromebooks and prevent them emerging as versatile productivity devices.

Over the past year, "Office apps would randomly show up on one device without being available on most others", Chrome Unboxed said. As of now, there is no comment from Google and Microsoft over the development. Reports also indicate that Office Apps would show up for some Chromebooks and then disappear.

Microsoft Office will be available free on devices like ASUS' Chromebook Flip (with a 10.1-inch display), but bigger devices will require a subscription.

Microsoft provided no formal announcement on the matter but support does seem universal (or at the very least, much more universal) than it did before.

Although there's been no official word from either party, Chrome Unboxed has been tinkering with the various offerings and it appears that they are all now working as they should. This helps users to try out new features even before they are released to the production ring.

Are you able to download the new Microsoft Office suite on your Google Chromebook via the Play Store? The smaller iPad Pro enjoys free access to the Microsoft Office apps, while the 12.9-inch iPad Pro needs a subscription. But the majority of Chromebook owners will want a personal subscription that includes a PC or Mac, a tablet and a phone for $69.99 per year (it's unclear what a Chromebook will be classified as).
