President Donald Trump tweeted Friday that he turned down a potential offer to be TIME Magazine's coveted "Person of the Year" after, Trump says, the magazine told him he would "probably" be given the honors. The magazine insists that it "does not comment" on the choice "until publication, which is December 6".

In December 2016, Time editors announced they had selected Trump as their "Person of the Year", beating out Hillary Clinton, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, United Kingdom Independence Party leader Nigel Farage, singer Beyoncé, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and whistleblowers in Flint, Mich. According to Trump, however, "probably" wasn't good enough.

Time named Trump its Person of the Year last year.

Donald Trump has been stirring up trouble on Twitter again, taking aim at Time magazine and its Person Of The Year.

Trump frequently brags about appearing on the cover of the iconic magazine.

Trump has always been obsessed with being on the cover of TIME and other news magazines, even making fake covers to hang in some of his properties.

A public "Person of the Year" poll is also taken into account.

The best Trump tweets spawn joking imitations and the US President's tweet about Time magazine's Person of the Year did just that. He has falsely claimed to hold the record for cover appearances, and was revealed earlier this year to have displayed fake issues of Time with himself on the cover at several of his private golf clubs.

Bbc just called to say I was PROBABLY going to be named sports personality of the year but I would have to agree to an interview and a major photo shoot.

Other prominent personalities and groups that has been recognised with such award include Barrack Obama, former U.S. president (2012), Pope Francis (2013), Ebola fighters (2014), and Angela Merkel (2015).

'The President is incorrect about how we choose Person of the Year.

Hate to tell you but that PROBABLY means you're NOT Person of the Year.
