CBS, Dish Network dispute could mean no Cowboys-Chargers game for subscribers

US Sen. Ed Markey urges Dish, CBS to settle dispute that could black out of Sunday's Patriots game

The agreement came after Dish subscribers missed on NFL football game and before they missed more college and pro football over the weekend.

At the heart of the dispute is how much money Dish is willing to pay CBS to retransmit the network's signal. Sources had said earlier this week that Dish and CBS had engaged in contract discussions over carriage fees since January, highlighting several months of alleged failed negotiations. Luckily, Dish and CBS reached a multi-year agreement 12 hours after the blackout.

"CBS is attempting to tax Dish customers on programming that's losing viewers, tax Dish customers on programming available for free over the air, and tax Dish customers for content available directly from CBS", Dish executive vice president Warren Schlichting said in a statement.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

TV networks like CBS can offset losses from traditional TV providers through partnerships with online and non-traditional partnerships.

CBS and Dish Network resolved a dispute over the fees the satellite TV provider pays to the broadcaster, ending a three-day blackout that affected customers across 26 states.

CBS said Wednesday it was "far apart on terms" with the satellite company over carriage of its channels, including its flagship broadcast network, CBS Sports Network, Smithsonian Channel and Pop.

The site also has a Ways to Watch section where you can select CBS programming from a drop-down menu in order to find ways to watch it during the Dish blackout.

CBS debuted its own subscription service, CBS All Access, in 2014, offering live and on-demand access to its robust library.

The settlement comes in time to spare the Missouri at Arkansas game on Friday, top-ranked Alabama at Auburn and next week's Niners-Bears matchup from being held hostage in the dispute, which pulled CBS-owned stations off Dish in Chicago and 16 other cities.
