Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: Katy Perry Reportedly Banned From Performing in China

When is the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2017 and how can you watch it?

In the latest scandal surrounding the annual lingerie show, Katy Perry has reportedly been "banned from China indefinitely", and won't be able to perform during the runway show, according to Page Six.

The problems are not dying down for Victoria's Secret.

Following persistent rumours of musicians and models being denied Chinese visas, this year's line-up of Victoria's Secret Fashion Show performers has just been confirmed.

Perry is allegedly banned from traveling to China because of what she wore during a 2015 performance in Taipei, Taiwan: a sequined dress decorated embellished with sunflowers - a symbol for anti-China protesters the year before Perry's performance. Some say that Taylor Swift can be an option, but she might or might not be able to access the country considering her last album's title - that is also her birth year - 1989, is sort of a taboo topic in China. "Maroon 5 was banned a few years ago because one band member wished the Dalai Lama happy birthday on Twitter".

Five models' visas were denied, including top model Gigi Hadid, who tweeted to share the sad news. It was speculated that she was unable to get her visa after a video of her squinting her eyes while holding up a Buddha cookie resurfaced when she announced that she would be headed to Shanghai.

Because of this tension, Perry's 2015 outfit, which she topped off with Taiwanese flag tied around her neck, could have been interpreted as a further anti-China statement.

The clip was posted by the model's sister, Bella, in February and later deleted following a storm of criticism.

Hours ago, the executive producer issued a statement where they danced around the reasons why the model can not walk in her third Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Hadid didn't share any other details but she could be among one of the few models who weren't able to obtain Chinese Visas to make the trip, including Julia Belyakova, Kate Grigorieva and Irina Sharipova from Russian Federation, as well as Dasha Khlystun from Ukraine.
