Boeing Sees Demand For '797' As Airbus' Dubai Airshow Drought May End

Reports Airbus on verge of a signing deal to sell 430 A320's to US based investor Indigo Partners

Airline pioneer Bill Franke placed an order worth $49.5 billion for 430 Airbus A320neo-family jets. They are USA company Frontier Airlines, Mexico's Volaris, Chilean carrier JetSmart and Hungary's Wizz.

This order, the largest in the history of Airbus, will more than double the backlog, net of the european giant this year, which was 288 devices at the end of October. The A320neo is priced at $108m and the larger A321neo at $127m but manufacturers offer large discounts on jets.

Indigo will distribute the 273 A320neos and 157 A321neos among the four ultra-low-cost airlines, with Wizz getting the largest share.

Boeing stole the early headlines with an order for 40 planes, worth $15 billion at list prices, from Dubai's Emirates airline on Sunday.

The Gulf super-connector has hinted, along with many of its peers, that it sees the future in smaller more efficient aircraft.

Clark suggested that either Emirates or discount carrier flydubai, which is also owned by the Dubai government, could be interested in a mid-sized jet that Boeing is considering developing.

A spokesman for Airbus declined to comment, as did Indigo says Bloomberg.

The Indigo Partners' airlines.

The despite the mega-order, celebrations at Airbus would be muted as the aircraft maker has failed to attract a single buyer for the A380 in Dubai, having been snubbed by the model's biggest buyer Emirates.

Later on Wednesday, Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, signed an agreement between Boeing and flydubai for the 225 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, saying: "Today's order underlines the success of flydubai's founding vision in changing the way people travel across the region".

Wednesday's historic deal represents a final grand act for Airbus's chief salesman, John Leahy, who plans to retire from the company once a successor is selected.

Boeing and AerCap, a Dublin-based aviation leasing company, also announced today that EgyptAir would lease six 787-9 Dreamliners. The order is expected to be announced in the morning during the Dubai airshow.
