Kentucky posts its highest-ever NCAA graduation rate

Grades Up Texas Tech Athletes Earn Highest Ever Graduation Success Rate

The 87 percent figure represents what the NCAA calls its graduation success rate, which excludes athletes who leave their institutions while academically eligible to compete and includes those players who transfer into an institution, which the association characterizes as more accurately representing how students flow through college.

"This is another strong showing from Ohio State's student-athletes", John Davidson, Ohio State Faculty Athletic Representative and Professor in Germanic Languages and Literatures, said.

The GSR and FGR metrics provide slightly different perspectives on graduation. It makes no accommodation for transfers into or out of an institution. It also accounts for mid-year enrollees and is calculated for every sport. "There are few better moments than when we see our student-athletes earn their degrees".

"The FGR, which simply tracks whether students who enter an institution as freshmen graduate from it within six years, is higher for Ohio State's general student body than the subset who are athletes (although both groups posted an increase of one percent in this year's report)", Davidson said.

GSR measures the success of an athletics department in graduating its student-athletes within a six-year period.

Nine teams posted GSR scores of 100 percent, highlighted by the men's basketball team who's GSR of 100 is 22 points greater than the Division I average.

Loyola had flawless GPRs for men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, men's swimming and diving, men's tennis, women's basketball, women's cross country and track and field, women's lacrosse, women's rowing, women's soccer, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis and women's volleyball. Arkansas' previous GSR score was 78 a year ago and the latest score is 33 percent higher than the 60 it received in the NCAA's first report in 2005.

The graduation success rate is based on a comparison of the number of student-athletes who entered college and the number of those who graduated within six years of initial enrollment. "They recruit with that in mind and structure their programs to foster high achievement in the classroom as well as in the arena".

Numerous Gonzaga sports teams added to impressive streaks with flawless GSR.

Vanderbilt, a private university, led all SEC members this year with a 96 percent rate.

Three Tech programs recorded GSR's of 90 or better, including lacrosse (92), women's basketball (90), which finished a point ahead of the national average, and men's swimming and diving.
