PM Modi calls Himachal election 'one-sided contest', alleges Congress for corruption

Releasing the manifesto Congress leader and Health Minister Kaul Singh said all marginal and small farmers in the state would be extended an interest-free loan of Rs one lakh without following strict conditions

Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi "sapnon ka saudagar" (merchant of dreams), the Congress on Sunday said that Modi has not fulfilled any promises he made to the people of Himachal Pradesh during his 2014 Lok Sabha campaign.

PM Modi also took a dig at former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and said that the latter refused to combat the menace of corruption.

Seeking votes for a "commoner" like Dhumal, he asked the people to vote out "royals", a reference to Singh.

While addressing a huge gathering in the district of Una, PM Modi said, "I have never seen such enthusiasm for the BJP that I am witnessing this time in Himachal Pradesh".

He vowed to continue fighting corruption, claiming that it had angered the opposition party which was observing "black money day" on November 8, the first anniversary of demonetisation decision.

Taking repeated potshots at the Congress leadership, Mr. Modi said senior Congress leaders had abandoned Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. "Had she done note ban when needed, I would not have had to carry out this big task", he said. The party appears to be taking a kind of revenge on the octogenarian Chief Minister, he said.

Polling for election in Seraj Assembly seat of Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha will be held on November 9. There was maximum development in Himachal when Atal Ji was in Delhi and Dhumal Ji was here in Himachal.

"People used to loot the treasury in the name of subsidies".

Confident about the Bharatiya Janata Party's victory in the upcoming assembly election, he said, "The Congress is going to mourn a lot in the coming week, but it is natural since they have nothing to do except mourning".

"Now our policy has stopped the leak".

The prime minister said the Congress has run away from the battlefield conceding defeat in the 68-member Assembly.

The alleged corruption of the Congress and his government's pro-poor development works were the central theme of Modi's two election meetings.

Modi said over 3 lakh companies had shut down after the note ban and a probe into 5,000 such firms had found a fraud of Rs 4,000 crore.
