Police responded to a report of an assault at Paul's home Friday afternoon.

The Warren County property valuation administrator's website lists an address for a Rene Boucher on Rivergreen Lane, which is in the gated neighborhood just east of Bowling Green where Paul resides.

The doctor is a registered Democrat and has frequently posted on his Facebook page about politically polarizing issues, writes Fox News.

According to the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure, Boucher is a retired physician, as of February, 2015.

According to records obtained by WAVE 3 News, he graduated from the University of Des Moines Osteopathic Med & Surgery.

The Republican senator was first elected in 2010.

It is not known why Boucher was in his home at the time. He was being held in custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond as of Saturday afternoon, according to the jail's website.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
