Zachary Levi To Star In DC's 'Shazam!' For New Line

DC's 'Shazam!' to Star Zachary Levi (Exclusive)

Levi will be next seen in Marvel's "Thor: Ragnarok" as Fandral, one of Thor's companions.

Shared on the DC Comics Reddit community, an artist by the name of Datrinti took a serious spin on DC's "big red cheese" with Levi looking ready for action and potentially just after transformation into the hero.

Levi is also known for his roles in Tangled and Chuck. Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg is lined up to direct the project under Warner Bros' New Line banner which itself is a fairly bold move for a character aimed generally at younger readers.

The new DC movie is being developed jointly with a film centering on Shazam! villain Black Adam, to be played by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

Shazam debuted in 1939 with the original name of Captain Marvel. It's none other than former star of "Chuck" Zachary Levi. Other actors who were earlier rumored to be considered for a role in Shazam includes John Cena, Billy Magnussen, Zane Holtz, Derek Theler, and Jake McDorman.

Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke wrote the script for Shazam, which follows a teenager who can become the world's mightiest mortal by simply saying the magic word "Shazam", an acronym for Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury. DC later officially renamed the character "Shazam" when relaunching its comic book properties in 2011. However, it has now been confirmed that he will not feature in the Shazam movie.

The next DC film to go into production, Shazam!

Given that Captain Marvel is essentially Superman with a different haircut, Shazam may need all the help it can get.
