House committees to investigate Justice Department decisions about Clinton probe

Hillary Clinton

The probes, involving the House Judiciary, Oversight and Intelligence Committees, came as Republicans and President Donald Trump weather increasing pressure from the multiple investigations into how Russian Federation may have aided Trump's presidential campaign past year.

Comey, who was sacked by President Trump in May, has been criticized for his investigation in the server.

She noted, however, that Bossie is strongly pushing for a special counsel now when he was adamantly against the appointment of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

It will be two different committees looking into this.

The Republican leaders of the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform panels said in a statement they were opening investigations into the FBI's handling of the Clinton email investigation and the decision not to prosecute her - the subject of hourslong congressional hearings past year.

The Department of Justice allegedly began investigating the matter in 2010, without informing the American public or Congress, The Hill reported.

The announcement comes at the same time the House intelligence committee and the oversight committee announced a joint investigation into an Obama-era uranium deal. After working with the White House previously to try and turn President Trump's tweets into reality, Nunes has been popping up more and more in Russian Federation investigations, despite recusing himself from the House's own probe. "This is more about uranium and whether or not government actually functioned properly", he said. Committee chairman, Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions with a request for the DOJ to lift a "gag order" on an Federal Bureau of Investigation informant who was reportedly instrumental in uncovering the corruption.

In 2009, the state-owned Russian nuclear company Rosatom started buying shares and then sought to assume a majority ownership in Uranium One, a Toronto, Canada-based industry with United States interests.

Hillary Clinton at the time sat on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) which voted the deal up or down.

Devin Nunes' announcement came one week after The Hill published a report on a "racketeering scheme. created to benefit former President Bill Clinton's charitable foundation during the time Secretary of State Hillary Clinton served on a government body that provided a favorable decision to Moscow". It is the second investigation launched by Republicans on Tuesday. He, DeSantis and Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., focused on the involvement of then-Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and the extent to which the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation had been scrutinizing the transaction or the entities involved.

What was the uranium deal?

Last week, the Senate Judiciary Committee also announced that it would be investigating the matter.

President Trump was elected almost a year ago, but the controversy over Hillary Clinton's emails is getting a new boost from key House Republicans.

Nunes has become a focal point of such efforts before. "Ten months into the Trump Administration and House Republicans still have not held a single substantive oversight hearing on clear abuses by the President or his top aides".

"The current Russian investigation is about the election".

Nunes also reportedly added that he's spent weeks talking to "informants" on the subject, but the White House has nothing to do with his quest. But when asked whether he would brief the White House in the future, he said, "If appropriate, yeah".

"This is totally different from the election issue", King said.
