Trump calls on Federal Bureau of Investigation to release names behind dossier

President Donald Trump speaks at a meeting

Two executives of a firm that helped produce an opposition-research dossier that makes salacious claims about President Donald Trump's ties to Russian Federation refused to answer questions Wednesday in a private meeting with the House Intelligence Committee.

"Workers of firm involved with the discredited and Fake Dossier take the 5th", Trump wrote on Twitter. Trump's tweeted speculation came a day after two officials with the intelligence firm that commissioned the dossier previous year appeared before the House Intelligence Committee but invoked their constitutional privilege not to provide testimony. He had stepped back from running the panel's probe into Russian meddling in the US election amid controversy, though he kept his job as committee chairman and remains involved in some issues related to the investigation.

Trump has vigorously denied allegations in the document that the Russian government has collected compromising information about him and was engaged in an active effort to assist his campaign. Fusion GPS says they have promised confidentiality to their clients and to violate that obligation would harm their business model.

Steele worked for the firm Fusion GPS, which was initially hired by one of Trump's Republican primary opponents.

In August, Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee for 10 hours, Levy said.

The FBI has also entered the equation by investigating the contents of the dossier, which was published online in January by BuzzFeed News.

The latest: On Thursday Trump suggested the Democratic Party, the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Kremlin could have bankrolled the report, that has yet to be substantiated by anyone in Washington, Politico reports.
