Smith's shoulder puts India T20 appearance in doubt

Jason Behrendorff

Despite a short spell in the nets, skipper Steve Smith has been ruled unfit to play in the India T20 series.

The Karnataka batsman's return from a shoulder injury has not gone to plan as he did not get a chance in the ODI series. In his captaincy, India has won 17 of the last 23 T20 matches.

India won the toss and opted to bowl in the first T20 global against Australia here today. The miscalculations of length began early enough, Warner setting the template when, having flayed two wide deliveries for four, he again swooped his bat down at an angle to a good-length ball and chopped on in the first over.

Australia captain Steve Smith has been sent home from the team's tour of India with a right shoulder injury.

Australia lost the fifth ODI in Nagpur by seven wickets as India completed a 4-1 series win over the world champions to reclaim the number one spot in the ICC rankings.

Paceman Jason Behrendorff is likely to make his long-awaited global debut, while Andrew Tye, after replacing Pat Cummins (rested), is among four quicks in the squad.

Rohit Sharma hit debutant left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff for a boundary and flicked Nathan Coulter-Nile for a six before being cleaned up.

Australia's middle-order drastically failed as Travis Head (9), Moises Henriques (8), Daniel Christian (9), and Tim Paine (17) failed to rise to the occasion and were dismissed cheaply.

In the three ODIs they opened the batting, they put on first-wicket stands of 70, 231 and 66. Their spinners would be their lead weapon in the match.

"I'm happy with how it's gone so far, I've been really lucky and I'm hopeful it can continue for a few years.I think I'm one of the best wicketkeepers in Australia and I've always said that and always felt that.", he concluded.

Now in place of Smith, Aussie opener David Warner will take charge of the men-in-yellow in three match T20 series against host.

According to the last news, team Australia has scored 118 runs by losing 8 wickets in 18.4 overs and match is stopped due to rain. He's a huge wicket tomorrow night and in the whole series.

"I probably won't go into any detail but we've certainly got a couple of plans, we'll see how they go".
