Fired construction worker kills foreman, then self, at site

Witnesses said the shooting happened on the 39th floor of the building shown above closest to the water

Police in NY were searching for a gunman after a shooting incident at a construction site on Manhattan's West Side on Thursday (Oct 5), in which one person was killed, U.S. media reports said.

Police said they received a 911 call about a shooting at 7:09 a.m. and found the victim dead with a gunshot wound to the head on 59th street and 11th avenue.

Almost two hours later, at about 8:45 a.m., the Perry was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the fifth floor, police said. "The shooter had a dispute with the foreman and shot him several times".

Police initially responded to reports of an active shooter at the site, but quickly determined it was an incident of workplace violence, police said.

"When I got upstairs I see my foreman on the floor, which is a good friend of mine as well", said Pagan.

Perry had reportedly been hinting at his deadly plan a day or two before carrying it out. They described the gunman as "a little insane", but would never have expected this.

Workers claimed the man was a disgruntled former employee who was sacked a few days ago.

Officers who arrived at the building discovered a man who had been shot in the head, the police said.

"Talking to some of the workers so far, they are saying he was a bit of a hothead", NYPD Deputy Chief Christopher McCormack said referring to Perry, per the newspaper. His last arrest was in 2005. "He comes in the morning real early, drinks his coffee, smokes his cigarette".

"He's been telling me". Sayers and Perry were both carpenters with Local 212 New York City District Council of Carpenters, the tabloid stated. He never gives nobody a hard time.

The union says it's cooperating with authorities in their investigation.
