Puerto Rico governor says relief arriving to storm-ravaged rural areas

Trump says 'big decisions' to be made on rebuilding costs for Puerto Rico

Two more Navy officials fired over ship collisions Poll finds little support for Menendez reelection Judge tells Menendez lawyer to "shut up" MORE (D-N.J.) hit President Trump's response to Puerto Rico on Saturday after he surveyed the hurricane-ravaged island this week during a break from his corruption trial.

That official, Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke, called the situation in Puerto Rico, "a good news story". She also said the death toll had been low for a storm the size of Hurricane Maria.

FEMA said in a news release Saturday that urban search-and-rescue teams, working alongside local law enforcement, have scoured the island and rescued 843 people.

"Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, whose parents moved to NY from Puerto Rico, took his shot on Twitter, saying: "You're going straight to hell, @realDonaldTrump".

"Damn it, this is not a good-news story".

"We are dying here, and I can not fathom the thought that the greatest nation in the world can not figure out logistics for a small island of 100 miles by 35 miles long", Cruz said.

"Dammit, this is not a good-news story". Carmen Yulin Cruz said on CNN: "This is a people-are-dying story".

The mayor lashed back by saying, "Maybe from where she's standing, it's a good news story". "I have no time for small politics or for comments that do not add to the situation here". "I am mad as hell".

Since Hurricane Maria slammed into the United States territory as a Category 4 hurricane earlier this month, much of the island has been devastated - leaving millions of Americans without electricity and water, and limited access to gas and other vital supplies. Some communities are still flooded in parts.

The Department of Homeland Security's acting administrator of the region that includes Puerto Rico said distribution had been hampered by the destruction of roads and bridges, which makes it hard to get supplies to those in need.

Bayamon Mayor Ramon Luis Rivera told The Associated Press that FEMA officials sent a truck with a limited amount of food Monday. "All I have is time for people to move forward, get help and what kind of a Puerto Rican, what kind of a human would I be if I know of other mayors that are getting no water and no food and I just look the other way and just had my city taken care of?"

President Trump is facing growing - but still measured - criticism of the federal response to the devastation in Puerto Rico. If it means blaming Puerto Rico's debt and infrastructure issues even as people are desperately searching for their loved ones, well, that's just how it goes.

"Hamilton" creator Lin-Manuel Miranda did not mince words in his message to Donald Trump following the President's Saturday morning Twitter attacks on San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz.

Insulin-dependent patients are "going insane for ice" to keep their medical supplies cold, Cruz said, while other patients haven't had their scheduled dialysis or chemotherapy in days.

Directly responding to Trump's insulting tweets delivered from his New Jersey golf resort, Cruz dismissed the president out of hand, saying he was wrong about her and the people of Puerto Rico.
