Investigation launched after barrier collapse

Amiens president points finger at Lille ultras

At least 25 football fans have been injured, four seriously, after a barrier collapsed during Amiens' match against Lille.

Television pictures showed dozens of fans falling onto the pitch, and the match was suspended following a security meeting.

The collapse occurred as visiting fans celebrated Fode Ballo-Toure scoring Lille's opening goal in the 15th minute.

Amiens public prosecutor Alexandre de Bosschere said an investigation had been opened into accidental injury, focusing on why the barrier gave way.

Lille's official Twitter account posted a more positive update on Sunday, saying: "Six people are still hospitalised this Sunday morning, but the news is reassuring".

Ingla also criticised Amiens president Bernard Joannin who blamed Lille fans for the collapse of the safety barrier.

Their 12,000-capacity Stade de la Licorne is the smallest of the 20 Ligue 1 clubs. Our supporters are impeccable and professional football needs to be better organised.

The Referee, Thomas Leonard, stopped the game immediately and - as the teams were sent to the dressing rooms - the emergency services stepped in.

"Lille hope that those responsible for this accident are swiftly identified, for the club's supporters and the victims".
