The flight diverted to Canada where it landed safely in Goose Bay, according to a passenger.

The plane landed safely, but part of its engine cowling was missing and it scattered debris across the runway.

In a statement, Air France praised the pilots and cabin crew on Flight 66 out of Paris' Charles de Gaulle Aiport, who they said "handled this serious incident perfectly".

The plane was carrying 496 passengers and 24 crew at the time, an Air France spokesperson told AFP news agency. Customers taken care by Air France and rerouting solutions on going.

Passengers reported Air France flight AF66 was over the Atlantic when the incident happened, causing those onboard to panic and scream.
