Virat Kohli equals Dhoni's record winning run

Pandya steps up and shines in India's No 4 project

While Pandya's crucial 78 led the team's run chase in Indore, Yadav impressed with his maiden hat-trick in the second global. Skipper Virat Kohli called Pandya a superstar after the Indore ODI and the Baroda lad is even being considered as the answer to former India skipper Kapil Dev, one of the best all-rounders to have played the gentleman's game. It's pretty important that I read the game. It's about being positive and backing yourself and if I feel like, I go for it. Just when Warner was looking to upped the ante further with a six and a four, he was castled by Hardik Pandya (1-58) in the 14th over, ending 70 run opening stand. Finch, who was going at a slow rate struck three boundaries and a six to complete his 17th half-century.

There was a stage in the game when Kohli and Kedar Jadhav departed in quick succession, leaving Pandya and Manish Pandey, the latter having struggled for runs in the first two games, to take the chase forward.

Courtesy a solid foundation laid by the openers - Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma - India had cruised to 147 for 2 in 23.3 overs when Pandya walked out to bat. "That time (in Chennai) I thought that Zampa was bowling and I knew that I could hit a six off him any time I wanted to", he said, as a matter of fact.

Steven Smith finally managed to win a toss and without any hesitation made a decision to bat first on a good batting surface.

Hardik Pandya also took the important wicket of David Warner for 42. It was India's head coach Ravi Shastri who backed Pandya to go in early in the runchase.

Indore: He has become the cynosure of all eyes with his six-hitting prowess but Hardik Pandya has said that it's not a skill he has developed overnight as he has been clearing the ropes easily since childhood. "Rather than seeing it as a challenge, I saw it as an opportunity to do something nice for the team. This is the first time I played so many balls, so it was great", he said.

Kohli tweeted a video soon after the win, calling Pandya "the man of the moment" who had proved his credentials when he was promoted to bat at No. 4 on the night. "Obviously the plan was to target the spinners and yeah, it came out pretty well". I can play all kinds of innings. I focus only on the things, which I can focus and right now I am just playing my cricket.

However legendary spinner Bishan Singh Bedi believes India have not been tested by opposition teams, barring the Champions Trophy final in June against Pakistan which they lost by 180 runs.

"We are loving the ratings, but if we are a little more pragmatic then you will realise that the Indian team in the a year ago or so haven't been stretched by the opposition".
