Newcastle United head to Brighton and Hove Albion after major mood change

The 29-year-old agreed to sign for Brighton on a season-long loan from Newcastle United in August but that deal has now been made permanent

Hughton, of course, took his first steps on the managerial ladder at St James' Park, but Benitez, who will send his team out against former employers Liverpool next weekend, knows that will all be forgotten for 90 minutes at least.

Despite finishing top of the Championship last season, Benitez was keen to significantly bolster his squad before the beginning of the new Premier League campaign. "We had opportunities in the last three games to clinch the title and we weren't good enough at that particular moment to do that".

Striker Glenn Murray is back in contention along with captain Bruno after he recovered from a recurring back trouble.

For Rafa Benitez's side, Paul Dummett remains sidelined whilst Aleksandar Mitrovic is suspended.

This will be the 15th league meeting between these two clubs, but the first in the English top flight.

BOSS Chris Hughton wants a win against Newcastle, not revenge, to give Albion a "decent start" in the Premier League.

Brighton have handed a Premier League appearance to just 16 different players in 2017-18; the lowest total among all clubs this season.

Following Krul's departure, a statement on the club's website read (via Goal): "Everyone at Newcastle United would like to thank Tim for his long service to the club, and wish him and his family well for the future".

But Benitez admits there could be little to choose between the teams despite the Magpies now sitting in fourth place with Brighton hovering just above the relegation zone. "It's more or less what I was expecting".

Ritchie believes it would be unwise for too much to be read into the club's current position of fourth-place in the league and says that survival remains the club's goal. West Brom were garbage when they visited the Amex in our last home game but that shouldn't take away from how well we played. It could have gone so differently, but it didn't through a lot of hard work from everyone involved.
