China confirms will limit oil exports to North Korea

China says North Korean situation more serious by the day

Two South Korean officials at the Korea Meteorological Administration told CNN that their analysis so far suggests Saturday's seismic activity around the nuclear site was not caused by an explosion or a collapse of the site.

The North, which says it needs nuclear weapons to protect itself against the threat of invasion by a hostile USA, responded on Friday with a rare personal rebuke from Kim, who called Trump "mentally deranged" and a "dotard" and threatened the "highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history".

North Korea also launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) in July that appeared to bring much of the U.S. mainland into range.

Ministry spokesman Baik Tae-hyun says North Korea should stop provocations that would "lead to its own isolation and demise".

China's Big Four state-owned banks have stopped providing financial services to new North Korean clients, Reuters reported last week, with some measures beginning as early as the end of previous year.

President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un spent the past week trading insults and ratcheting up the already-high tension between the countries. One thing North Korea is extremely good at is absorbing pain.

Four sources earlier told Reuters that China's central bank had told banks to strictly implement United Nations sanctions against North Korea.

Ri reportedly added that "We have no idea about what actions could be taken as it will be ordered by leader Kim Jong Un".

The U.N. Security Council has unanimously imposed nine rounds of sanctions on North Korea since 2006, the latest this month capping fuel supplies to the isolated state.

European Union ambassadors have reached an initial agreement to impose more economic sanctions on North Korea, going beyond the latest round of United Nations measures, officials and diplomats said on Thursday.

"All of our endeavors are to prevent war from breaking out and maintain peace", Moon said in his speech.

South Korea says Kim Jong Un's rebuke against U.S. President Donald Trump marked the first time a North Korean leader directly issued a statement to the worldwide community under his name.

China warned on Friday that the situation on the Korean Peninsula was "grave" and called for restraint on all sides after North Korea hinted that it might explode a hydrogen bomb over the Pacific Ocean. "Parties should meet each other half way, by addressing each other's legitimate concerns".
