Kuldeep Yadav's maiden hat-trick and a fluent 92 by Virat Kohli helped India cruise to a 50-run win over Australia in the second one-day worldwide in Kolkata on Thursday.
All the eyes will be on Steve Smith who will be playing his 100th ODI when he steps in Kolkata.
Playing only his ninth ODI, Kuldeep was under pressure, having conceded 39 runs in 7 overs in a low-scoring affair.
The Eden Gardens strip which was relaid past year surprised everyone with its pace and bounce during the India-New Zealand Test match last September and even the ODI between the hosts and England this January. Smith and Head added 76 runs before the latter hit a high full toss from Chahal straight to Manish Pandey at midwicket. Smith opted to go for the pull but hardly timed it. Substitute fielder Ravindra Jadeja running in from deep square leg did the rest.
Shortly, Kuldeep appeared to quicken the process as he became only the third India bowler to bag an ODI hat-trick, accounting for scalps of Matthew Wade, Ashton Agar and Pat Cummins.
The India vs Australia 2nd ODI match will be played on Thursday, September 21, 2017. Amongst away/neutral matches to have produced a definitive result, Australia have lost now lost 10 on the trot.
Kolhi walked out to bat after Rohit Sharma's early dismissal and looked at ease on the Eden Garden surface which was a bit two-paced early on.
One man Smith will be looking to emulate is Virat Kohli. "We didn't want to lose that and if you give it up now in five years you are not going to get it back", the Australian captain said at an event organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce here.
Coming to the stats of Kohli, it is pretty clear that it is him who led the second ODI bagging a stunning 92 off just 107 balls which included the fine eight boundaries.
The weather took a toll on the Aussies as well, with both Coulter-Nile and Cummins resorting to cooling down with the constant use of wet towels and hydration during drinks breaks. Rahane's individual 55 included seven fours from 64 balls.
Kohli looked good for the better part of his stay at the crease before chopping the ball onto his stumps from a Coulter-Nile delivery. By featuring in the ongoing Kolkata ODI, Dhoni became the 19th player to represent a team in 300 ODI matches. But we knew if we had a good start we have a good chance of defending it.
Then Kane Richardson, replacing Coulter-Nile in the 40th over, dismissed MS Dhoni, who drove fractionally early and found short extra-cover.

If we are all honest with each other, there is no denying that when real money is involved the activity is no longer for leisure. And in some cases, it is even used to refer to something that is done elsewhere for an income but now being done for recreation.
